Choosing a Porto Mobility electric wheelchair

Most of the Porto Mobility range is the Ranger family of folding electric wheelchairs, also called power wheelchairs. Porto Ranger wheelchairs differ mainly in how much they weigh, how much they carry and how wide the seat is. The carbon fiber Ranger Aero, Ranger Dorsia and Ranger Carbon power wheelchair weigh 26 to 34 lbs without batteries and carry 265 to 300 lbs, which suits a rider who puts the chair in a car several times a week. The Ranger Skylight weighs 30 lbs without its battery, and the aluminum Ranger Royce and Ranger Super Lightweight weigh 39 and 43 lbs, all three rated for 265 lbs. The carbon fiber Ranger SpacePro chairs and the Ranger TorqueLite weigh 43 lbs without batteries and carry up to 400 lbs.

For larger riders the Ranger Quattro, Ranger Discovery and Ranger Maestro weigh 50 to 58 lbs without batteries and carry 400 to 440 lbs. The Quattro and Discovery also come in XL and XXL versions and the Maestro in an XL version, each with a wider seat. The Ranger Magnum carries up to 660 lbs on a 22 in seat, with 24 and 26 in seats available by phone, and Ranger The Beast carries up to 500 lbs. Both still fold for transport, though at 89 and 90 lbs without batteries each one needs a ramp, a lift or a helper to load. The Maestro chairs and the SpacePro Recliner add a reclining backrest, and the caregiver versions of the Dorsia and the Super Lightweight are set up so a companion can control the chair.

Porto Mobility scooters

All four Porto scooters fold and run on lithium batteries. The Ranger Carbon scooter weighs 28.2 lbs without its battery and the Ranger Ivy Carbon weighs 36 lbs without batteries. The Ranger Jetty Carbon folds automatically, and the Toran HD carries up to 400 lbs at speeds of up to 6 mph.

Portable chair lifts

The Elevon, Rovan and Stron are portable lifts that raise a folded power chair to a car trunk or SUV cargo floor, so you are not lifting the full weight by hand. Each lift has a maximum load, 70 lbs for the Elevon, 100 lbs for the Rovan and 220 lbs for the Stron, so weigh your chair with its batteries before you pick one. The Lift Power Kit adds a separate battery and charger for the Elevon and Stron. The Rovan has its own built in battery.

Batteries, chargers and parts

Each product page lists the battery voltage and amp hours Porto publishes for that model, the watt hours they work out to, and the charging time and charger rating where Porto gives them. Airlines set their own limits for mobility aid batteries, so take the watt hour figure to your airline before you book. Extra batteries are available by phone, and we order replacement parts from Porto using the Porto part number on the product page where Porto lists one.
